Competition Night – Build & Battle Robo Sumo!

🚀 Competition Night is here! This exciting monthly event at the Center for Future Innovators (CFI ROBOTICS) brings students together for a night of robotics and coding challenges. Each month features a new theme, testing creativity, engineering skills, and problem-solving abilities.

For this month’s Competition Night, we’re diving into Robo Sumo! Students will design, build, and battle their robots using the URC Gladiator Kit, competing in an intense robotic showdown to push their opponents out of the ring.

What is Competition Night?

💡 A Monthly Challenge: Each month, CFI hosts a new robotics or coding-based competition, giving students a fun way to apply STEM skills in a high-energy environment.🎮 Hands-On, Interactive Learning: Every challenge is designed to push creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork in a friendly competitive setting.🏆 Prizes & Recognition: The top students receive awards, but everyone walks away with valuable skills and experience!

This month’s theme is Robo Sumo, a test of engineering and strategic thinking as students build robots that battle for control in the ring.

How Does Robo Sumo Work?

The goal of Robo Sumo is simple: Push your opponent’s robot out of the ring before they push yours out!

🔹 Students will build and modify their robots to create the strongest and most effective design.

🔹 Competitors will go head-to-head, using remote-controlled movement and strategic positioning.

🔹 The top competitors will face off in a final bracket tournament to determine the ultimate Robo Sumo champion!

Competition Format

🏆 Round Robin Matches – Every competitor battles multiple times, earning points for each victory.

🏆 Final Tournament Bracket – The top-performing students advance to a single-elimination championship.

🏆 Prizes for Top Students!

Students can compete individually or in teams of two, working together to design the most effective robot and adapt their strategy after each match.

📌 Everyone receives a certificate for participating!

What Happens During the Event?

Each Competition Night is designed to blend structured learning with open-ended experimentation, allowing students to explore STEM concepts in a fun and engaging way.

1. Rules & Strategy Session – Students will learn the official Robo Sumo rules, including robot size limits, battle conduct, and gameplay strategies.

Who Can Participate?

📌 Ages: 6+

📌 Solo or Team Play: Students can compete individually or in teams of two.

📌 No Experience Necessary! All materials and instructions are provided—just bring enthusiasm and a competitive spirit!

What Kind of Robots Are Used?

All participants will use the URC Gladiator Kit, which is specially designed for Robo Sumo competitions.

🔹 Standard Remote Controls – Robots are controlled using handheld remotes, requiring fast reflexes and precise movements.

🔹 Customizable Designs – Students can adjust their robots’ weight, speed, and pushing mechanisms to maximize their battle effectiveness.
