CFI Policies & Guidelines

1. Equipment & Materials

  1. Replacement Responsibility

    • Parents/Guardians are responsible for purchasing replacement pieces if a student damages or breaks any CFI property (e.g., robotics kits, tablets, or other supplies).

    • If damage occurs, CFI staff will provide a list of necessary replacement parts and associated costs.

  2. Materials Requirement

    • Classes at Schools: CFI provides all required equipment (robotics kits, laptops/tablets, etc.) for classes held in partner schools. Students do not need to bring their own devices.

    • Classes at CFI Center (Open Lab, Specialty Classes, etc.): Students are encouraged to bring their own laptops or tablets, as use of a CFI device is not guaranteed. CFI iPads/laptops are limited and distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

2. Refund & Payment Policies

  1. No Refunds

    • CFI does not offer refunds for any class, program, workshop, camp, Open Lab session, or specialty course once payment is made.

  2. Payment Methods

    • As of March 2025, CFI only accepts credit/debit cards, checks, and Zelle.

    • Cash payments are no longer accepted.

  3. Attendance & Missed Classes

    • No Make-Up Classes are available for:

      • After-School Programs

      • Competition Programs

      • Online Programs

      • Workshops

      • Camps

      • Classes with a set schedule

    • Missed sessions are the responsibility of the student; no refunds will be provided for missed classes.

3. Open Lab Policies

Open Lab is a flexible, self-paced environment where students can purchase monthly hours to explore coding, robotics, engineering, 3D modeling, and more.

  1. Hours Purchase & Expiration

    • Discount Bundle Hours expire at the end of the month they are purchased for.

    • Individually Purchased Hours may roll over to the next month if CFI announces rollover availability (exceptions apply).

  2. Flexible Attendance

    • Students can attend any time during Open Lab hours to use their remaining monthly or individual hours.

    • No make-up classes are required because of the flexible nature of Open Lab.

  3. Seating & Levels

    • CFI uses a leveling system (1–12) to track student progress in robotics, coding, and related skills.

    • Students at similar levels may be seated together to foster collaboration and effective learning.

  4. Project Completion & Level Advancement

    • Students earn new levels by completing 8 projects in their current level and presenting 1 project (or their engineering notebook) at a CFI Level Up Event.

    • CFI Level Up Events occur monthly starting in March 2025.

  5. Trial Lessons

    • Trial lessons are 30 minutes and cover select open lab programs.

    • Trial lessons are only offered on Sundays at our Bridgeport Center.

4. Specialty Classes & After-School Programs

  1. Fixed Schedules & Deep Dives

    • Specialty Classes (e.g., Advanced Robotics, 3D Printing, Minecraft Engineering) have set meeting times and fixed schedules.

    • After-school programs typically run in 8-week sessions.

  2. No Make-Up Classes

    • If a student misses a Specialty Class or After-School session, no make-up or refund is offered. Please plan attendance accordingly.

  3. Equipment

    • At Schools: All materials are provided by CFI.

    • At CFI Center: Students are encouraged to bring their own device so they may ccontinue learning at home.

5. Competitive Teams & Eligibility

  1. Age & Skill Requirements

    • Students must be at least 8 years old to join team-based competitions (e.g., FIRST LEGO League, WRO, 4-H Robotics).

    • High school students can participate in VEX V5 competitions.

  2. Attendance for Teams

    • Team practices follow a fixed schedule; no make-up sessions are available.

    • Consistent attendance is crucial for maintaining team cohesion and progress.

6. Behavior & Classroom Expectations

  1. Positive Learning Environment

    • Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that respects fellow classmates, instructors, and CFI property.

  2. Behavioral Issues Policy

    • If a student exhibits repeated behavioral issues, CFI may require a parent/guardian to remain present during class to ensure a positive learning environment for everyone.

  3. Disruptions & Dismissal

    • CFI reserves the right to dismiss a student who persistently disrupts class or endangers other students. No refund will be issued in such cases.

7. Additional Notes

  • Communication: Parents/Guardians are encouraged to maintain open communication with instructors about student progress, level advancements, or any concerns.

  • Policy Updates: CFI may update or modify policies as needed. The most current version will be posted on our website and shared with enrolled families.
