Decode English – American Phonics Course

CFI Robotics NFP is proud to launch Decode English, a free American phonics course designed to support young English learners and their families. As part of our growing Dual Language initiative, this program focuses on helping students build the foundational reading skills they need to succeed, not just in language, but across all areas of learning.

Why Decode English Matters

The COVID-19 pandemic had a lasting impact on students across the country, especially those from immigrant families. Many children missed key moments in literacy development. For students learning English as a second language, the challenge is even greater. Reading scores remain below pre-pandemic levels, and too many students still struggle with basic phonics and comprehension skills.

Decode English offers a supportive and inclusive way to bridge that gap. Our course teaches children how to “decode” the sounds and patterns of American English. Using proven phonics methods, students learn to recognize letter-sound combinations, blend words, and strengthen their reading fluency. We also place a strong emphasis on pronunciation, listening, and speaking skills, helping students gain both confidence and clarity in communication.

A Family Approach to Language Learning

What sets Decode English apart is its whole-family model. While students build reading skills, parents are welcomed into the learning process as well. Many caregivers of English learners never had the chance to study phonics themselves, and our goal is to make these concepts approachable and empowering for all families.

Currently, Decode English supports Chinese-to-English learners, and we plan to expand the program as part of our Dual Language Program, which reflects CFI’s deep commitment to community-based education and inclusive learning environments.

In each session, students engage with interactive, multisensory activities, including spelling games and storytelling, that make phonics fun, memorable, and meaningful through writing. Instructors are trained in both early literacy and cross-cultural engagement, ensuring every child feels seen, heard, and supported.

Building Literacy, Unlocking Opportunity

At CFI, we believe that strong reading skills open the door to all future learning, especially in science, technology, and the arts. By helping students master the building blocks of language, we’re preparing them to thrive in classrooms, competitions, and careers in the STEAM fields.

This program is more than a reading class — it’s a first step toward equity, access, and lifelong success. One child’s journey through Decode English could become the foundation for robotics, coding, writing, or public speaking. When we teach literacy, we empower leaders.
