A New Monthly STEM & Language Experience for Young Learners
At the Center for Future Innovators (CFI Robotics NFP), we believe that STEAM education is for everyone, regardless of language or background. That’s why we’re proud to introduce Dual Language STEAM Night, a monthly initiative that blends STEAM learning with cultural appreciation. This program is designed not just to teach robotics and engineering but to bridge the cultural divide, strengthen connections between generations, and celebrate the rich diversity of our community.
Date: Sunday, March 9
Time: 4:00 - 5:00 PM
Ages: 5 – 8 years old
Location: CFI Bridgeport Center, 3500 S Morgan, Suite 416
Cost: FREE
Why Dual Language Night?
For many second-generation students, learning in their family’s native language can be both a challenge and a privilege. While they may grow up speaking English fluently, many children of immigrant families experience a language gap at home, often struggling to communicate complex ideas in their parent’s native tongue.
Dual Language Night is an opportunity to close this gap.
Honoring Cultural Identity:
By engaging with STEAM in both languages, students can develop a stronger connection to their heritage, gaining confidence in their ability to communicate about technology and problem-solving across cultures.
Encouraging Bilingual Learning:
Research shows that bilingual students have improved cognitive flexibility, creativity, and critical thinking skills; all essential for success in STEM fields.
A Celebration of Community:
This event creates a safe, welcoming space where students and families can learn, engage, and support one another in a shared educational journey.
What Will Students Do?
This event is ideal for young learners ages 5-8, providing an age-appropriate introduction to engineering and robotics in a fun, structured environment.
This month’s theme is SPEED using the LEGO Robotics WeDo Racecar, where students will build, code, and experiment while learning key science and engineering terms in both English and Chinese.
Explore an engineering topic while completing an interactive activity sheet.
Build a LEGO Robotics WeDo Racecar, following a step-by-step lesson.
Learn how to program a light sensor to start and stop the racecar.
Experiment with their robots, testing different code variations.
Wrap-Up & Cleanup, the session will end with a brief discussion on what students learned.
