CFI’s FIRST LEGO League Team 62345 gives back to the community with a hands-on art and STEAM workshop.
Before heading to Nationals in just a few weeks, Team TerraBytes, CFI Robotics NFP’s FIRST LEGO League Team 62345, took time to give back to the community by helping host a LEGO Block Printing Workshop for students and families.
The workshop gave students a chance to explore creativity, design, and hands-on making through block printing. Using LEGO pieces as part of the printing process, students created their own artwork while learning how patterns, pressure, texture, and design choices can change the final print.

For Team TerraBytes, the workshop was about more than one activity. It was a chance to share what they have learned, support younger students, and continue building a team culture centered on service. Throughout the season, TerraBytes students have grown through robotics, coding, research, competition, and outreach. Their team has emphasized testing, iteration, collaboration, and community engagement as part of their journey to the American Robotics Open.

The LEGO Block Printing Workshop also showed how STEAM can connect science, engineering, and art in meaningful ways. Students were able to experiment, make choices, test ideas, and see their designs come to life. These are the same creative problem-solving skills that TerraBytes uses in robotics.
CFI would like to give a special thank you to Kun Zhao for leading and supporting this beautiful community program. Kun brings deep experience in art education and printmaking, including an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a concentration in Material and Printmaking, as well as an M.F.A. in Printmaking from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Her background in drawing, painting, wood-cut print, and material expression helped make the workshop a meaningful learning experience for students.

This workshop was also special because Kun’s son, Jack, is a member of Team TerraBytes. Her support reflects the larger community behind the team, including parents, teachers, coaches, and volunteers who help create opportunities for students to grow.
Team TerraBytes has worked hard all season and earned the opportunity to compete at the American Robotics Open, a national-level FIRST LEGO League competition. Before they represent CFI and our community on the national stage, they are continuing to show what makes this team special: student leadership, hard work, teamwork, and a commitment to giving back.
Go TerraBytes!
